Illinois Bankers Guest Tour - $100 pp Wednesday, June 8 The Best of Springfield (Spouse/Guest Tour) - 9:30 am This optional program for spouses/guests takes in all the best of Springfield. The day begins with a tour of the Dana Thomas House. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1902 for Susan Lawrence Dana, a forward-thinking socialite living in Springfield, Illinois. The home, the 72nd building designed by Wright, contains the most extensive collection of site-specific, original Wright art glass and furniture. Wright's first "blank check" commission shows that the home has 35 rooms in the 12,000 square feet of living space, including three primary levels and 16 varying levels. The group strolls through Abraham Lincoln's neighborhood and home following this spectacular tour. In 1861, Abraham Lincoln left his home of 17 years – the only home he ever owned – to serve as the 16th President of the United States. The Lincoln Home has been completely restored to its 1860 appearance and reveals much about Lincoln as husband, father, neighbor, and politician. At mid-day, the Springfield Carriage Company serves a delicious lunch and a brief history of their building. We end the day with a delightful visit to Springfield's Washington Park Botanical Gardens.
