BSA Basics: Building the Foundation for BSA Success

If you're new to Bank Secrecy Act responsibilities—or simply looking to build a stronger foundation— BSA Basics is designed to give you the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed before moving into advanced BSA topics.

This interactive workshop focuses on the fundamentals every BSA professional should know. Rather than diving into risk assessments or complex investigations, we'll concentrate on understanding the purpose of the Bank Secrecy Act, navigating your BSA manual, learning common terminology, and becoming familiar with the resources you will use every day. Through instructor-led discussion, practical exercises, and real-world examples, you'll gain a solid understanding of how a BSA program is organized and where to find answers when questions arise.

Each participant will receive a Comprehensive BSA Basics Training Manual and a BSA Quick Reference Toolkit packed with reference guides, acronyms, regulatory resources, and job aids for immediate use.

• Understanding the purpose and history of the Bank Secrecy Act
• Learning common BSA, AML, and OFAC terminology and acronyms
• Understanding the roles of FinCEN, OFAC, the FFIEC, and banking regulators
• How to navigate your institution's BSA policy and procedures manual
• Using the FFIEC BSA Examination Manual and other regulatory resources
• Understanding the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and regulatory guidance
• Roles and responsibilities of the BSA Officer, Operations, Branches, Management, and the Board
• Introduction to CTRs, SARs, CIP, CDD, OFAC, Monetary Instruments, and Exemptions
• Developing strong documentation and organizational habits
• Building your own BSA reference library and preparing for future training
